Lines down power out

Power is out in a large area of Te Puke after power lines came down near the corner of Boucher Avenue and Lenihan Drive in Te Puke. Simone Mitchell lives near the area where the lines came down and says she heard a huge surge when it happened.

Power lines have come down in Te Puke on Boucher Ave.

"I just heard a massive surge and then I saw lines bouncing. Not long after that there were fire engines screeching up the road."
Simone often hears power surges on the road but says it usually follows a vehicle that has crashed into the power lines.
Another neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, told SunLive the lines were forced down after a truck ploughed into them.

Staff at Countdown Te Puke got an extra afternoon break when the power went off following a line down incident.
