Serious assault at Mount Maunganui

A 24 year old Mount Maunganui man is in Tauranga Hospital after a serious assault outside a bar on Maunganui Road on Saturday at 12:30am.
The man sustained a head injury and police understand his condition is serious but not life threatening.



Three Tokoroa males aged 14, 16 and 18 have been arrested in relation to the incident and have been charged with assault.
The three have been bailed and will appear in Tauranga District Court April 1.
The Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is taking over the enquiry.


Another six arrests were made in Mount Maunganui overnight:

  • A 19 year old Matapihi male was arrested for possession of graffiti instruments on Lambeth Road.

  • A 17 year old Mount Maunganui male was arrested charged with possession of a baseball bat and is held in custody for breaching his bail conditions. He appears in court today, March 27..

  • A 22 year old Hairini male was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour outside Mount Mellick.

  • A 22 year old Papamoa man was arrested and charged with assault on Maunganui Road as well as charged with possession of instruments for the use of cannabis.

  • A 18 year old Otumoetai male was arrested on Maunganui Road and charged with disorderly behaviour.

  • One arrest was made in Egmont Street, Tauranga overnight. A 30 year old Hairini male charged with assault.
