Nose to tail causes backlog

Traffic came to a halt Sunday at 1pm on Maungatapu bridge when a Toyota with a trailer apparently braked and four cars following crashed in a nose-to-tail collision.

The Toyota was not at the scene when police arrived but Constable Gunner from Mt Maunganui Police station says one of the drivers took down the licence plate number and a description of the driver which the police will be following up on. St John's ambulance attended the scene and two people were taken to hospital with minor bruising. "It was a classic case of people driving too close," says Constable Gunner.

I am rather puzzled at why the police should be looking for the Toyota (unless it is for leaving the scene without insuring no injuries) the fact is that not one but several cars were traveling too close together resulting in a problem - this could be caused at any time anywhere - a child running onto the road - a diversion to miss detritus on the road etc etc - while it is a shame I am afraid the following drivers only have them selves to blame and have hopefully learnt a lesson before their failure to use common sense ends up in a future injury or worse!
