Blazing new trails

The club will be leading a ride in the park from 10am; just one of many displays and activities on the day. The Discovery Day is a chance for Western Bay residents to learn about plans for the park and for users groups and contractors involved in the park's development to showcase their projects.

Mountainbike Tauranga's TECT development team leader Marty Robinson is heading for the hills this weekend to take part in the TECT All Terrain Park Discover Day on Sunday, October 25.

Anyone curious to know what's happening at the TECT All Terrain Park in Pyes Pa can find out during a Discovery Day this Sunday, October 25.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council TECT All Terrain Park manager Ric Balfour and his team are organising the Discovery Day as a sneak preview of the park, which will offer many outdoor sports and recreation facilities.
'There has been a lot of curiosity about where the project is at, and when it's going to be open,” says Ric.
User groups will be moving in this summer to start developing different areas of the park in preparation for the public to be able to take advantage of some of the 1255 hectares of land.
Some of the user groups will be present on the day with static displays and live demonstrations. Groups include motorsports; mountainbikers; equestrians; scouts; a 4WD club; clay target shooters, deer stalkers, pistol shooters; and many more. Members are keen to let the public know how they can get involved.
Contractors involved in the physical development of the area will also be there to show-off machinery and techniques used to build a new park, including a tree munching machine.
There will also be a fun scavenger hunt for the kids with a buried treasure and commercial helicopter rides to see the mysterious Fang of the Forest from the air with the M*A*S*H chopper.
Food and drink will be available for sale.
The Discovery Day is free to enter and runs from 9am-3pm. It will be based near the Pyes Pa/Whataroa Road intersection.
The park was purchased in 2004 by WBOPDC and Tauranga City Council.
