Motorcyclists: watch for ice

Head of the Western Bay of Plenty strategic traffic unit, senior sergeant Ian Campion, is urging all motorcyclists to slow down and be extra vigilant in icy conditions.
"If you hit ice on a motorcycle, you are going to bite the tar-seal and you're going to be injured if not worse," says Ian.

He says ice is usually identifiable.
"Make sure you're aware of your situation. Ninety-nine times out of 100, the signs are all there.
"You have frost on the side of the road, you have wheel tracks on the road surface. It's just a matter of picking up on those signs."
