Bell rings for $80k classroom

The $80,000 outdoor classroom learning area at Gordon Carmichael Reserve is officially open after a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.
The new facility was built by City Care Ltd and is to be gifted to Tauranga as part of the company's contribution to the City Partnership Programme.

Mayor Stuart Crosby and City Care northern region general manager Tim Gibson unveil the plaque at Gordon Carmichael Reserve.

The outdoor classroom is a landscaped amphitheatre with seating in a central hub area adjacent to the intersection of Carmichael Road and Westmorland Rise.
It is being used as one of the sites for a 'Learning through Discovery' programme funded by the Ministry of Education and managed by council and the Marine Watch Trust.
Students Years 5 to 8 will be able to access the site for the learning programme.
