Survivors improving

The drivers of two vehicles involved in a fatal collision on the bend at the Maungatapu end of the Maungatapu causeway are improving in hospital.


The Toyota Hilux's driver is improving in Tauranga Hospital.

The hospital reported today their conditions have improved from serious, to moderate.
An elderly woman passenger in one of the vehicles died in the collision between a Toyota Prado and a Toyota Hilux. She was Diane Margaret Wilton-Jones of Tauranga, aged 68. The crash happened at 5.30am, Saturday.
Police closed State Highway 2 from the Maungatapu roundabout to the Maunganui Road roundabout by Baypark for more than three hourswhile emergency services cut the survivors free from the vehicles.


The passenger in the Toyota Prado has died and the driver is in a serious condition in Tauranga Hospital.
