Two helpings of thundercats

Thundercats are racing at the Mount today and at Waihi on January 16, following yesterday's racing in Whangamata.
The three race days mark the opening racing of the national surf cross series.

There were 23 boats racing at Whangamata, in a programme that included 13 races.
The same programme with the surf cross series will continue at Mount Maunganui Main Beach.
Thundercat racing is fast and close to the beach to give the spectators a good view of the skills and thrills as two person teams race the outboard powered inflatables through the surf.
A bit of swell adds to the drama and the excitement, but the weather in not on their side. The surf report for Whangamata today is for a .3m swell and light winds. The Metvuw forecast for Tauranga and the Mount at 1pm is for 10-15 knot south westerly winds and rain.
