Police dismiss inaccurate radio report

Police have dismissed a news report, aired on an established Tauranga radio station on Friday morning, that a nude male swimmer approached two young girls at Mount Maunganui Main Beach on Thursday afternoon.
Mount Maunganui's senior sergeant Tania Kura says initial reports suggested a nude swimmer was swimming at the beach but believes the information was misinterpreted.

She says lifeguards on the beach phoned police because they were concerned about a man wandering the beach.
The man was wearing a thick hoodie, jeans and sneakers on the beach in the hot afternoon weather, says Tania.
She says the man was questioned by police about why he was wearing such warm clothing in summer at the beach and he stated that he did not like the feeling of wind on his skin.
