Both motorists were able to drive their vehicles away from the scene.
Ian says the white car was travelling towards Tauranga in the left lane on Jellicoe Street in central Te Puke.
The car changed into the right hand lane to avoid hitting a car that was waiting for an angle parking space and directly entered into the petrol tanker's path, says Ian.
'The petrol tanker struck the front right of the car.”
Ian says no petrol spilled or leaked from the tanker as a result of the crash.
Traffic flow through Te Puke quickly resumed to normal.
