Two serious accidents

A Te Puke man has died after his vehicle stuck an embankment and rolled on No 2 Road, south of the town on Friday afternoon.

Western Bay of Plenty Road Policing Unit Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the accident happened about 4.24pm about three kilometres south of Fairhaven Place.
The vehicle ended up in the centre of the roadway. The driver and sole occupant was a 44 year old Te Puke man. He was thrown a short distance from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Number 2 Road was reopened at 6.34pm. There was little disruption to traffic due to minimal traffic volumes. Enquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash.
The dead man's name will be released after next of kin have been advised.
A language barrier made a difficult rescue for fire fighters trying to free a driver trapped in his car near the summit of the Kaimais late Friday night.
The driver suffered a broken leg and was trapped in his vehicle following a two car collision about 11pm.
He kept on trying to get out, and Greerton and Tauranga fire fighters had to physically restrain the man so he could be cut free. Two people were taken to Tauranga hospital, the driver and his female passenger.
