Biking caregiver, 81, burgled

A photo of her deceased husband is among the items 81 year old Tauranga caregiver Dorne Clark wants returned after they were stolen from her home on Wednesday afternoon.
Dorne is known as a motorcycling enthusiast, is a member of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club, and last year rode to and participated in the Burt Munro Challenge in Invercargill. All of the riding gear she wore to that event is now stolen except for her boots.

Dorne's riding gear, except her boots, was stolen on Wednesday afternoon from her home.

It is not the loss of the riding gear that upsets Dorne so much though, as is the loss of some of the belongings which were kept with them.
In the pocket of her riding jacket was a small laminated picture of her late husband Alf, also a bike enthusiast, who died two years ago. Along with the picture were two keepsakes from her daughter who lives in Australia. One was a St Christopher's medal to keep her safe while travelling and the other was a pink gemstone that is associated with love and safety.
Dorne says these items are irreplaceable and she badly wants them back.
'You know where you stole them from,” she says to the thieves, 'and I want them returned to me or to my post box.”
The burglary occurred when Dorne returned home at about 3pm from a day of working as a caregiver and visiting a sick friend.
Dorne was upstairs at her house and on the phone when she heard a noise downstairs. She went to investigate.
'I thought it was someone in trouble and went to look and saw a figure rush past me.”
The person then jumped down over a wall and escaped the property. Police arrived shortly afterwards and interviewed some people they found nearby, but as yet no arrests have been made nor any goods recovered.
Dorne's goods can be posted back to PO Box 17006 Omokoroa 3154.
